How do you keep suede shoes looking neat for work? Maybe I am the only one with this problem, but no matter how careful I am or how I have them treated (DIY, professional waterproofing, etc) my suede shoes never last longer than a season of light wear. After about 10 days out I feel like they start to look sloppy. I love this pair and would consider buying them but I can’t imagine myself carrying 2 pairs of shoes everywhere and just changing into these at the office.

I have a lovely row of heels under my desk – minimal toting back and forth!
Suede definitely shows some wear faster (I don’t change out of heels to run out for lunch, so my one pair that is dark brown do get some outside time), so I wouldn’t use it in a light-colored shoe – but the dark brown, and a purple like this, would probably last longer. Very cute!

I don’t care for these, the first word that popped into my mind when I saw them was “matronly”

I love finding deals on Kate Spade shoes, but most of the ones I’ve found so far have been non-work appropriate (higher heels and more weekend-y styles and colors). These are nice for work!

Anon – why would you have to carry 2 pairs of shoes anywhere? Just keep these in the office and walk in wearing whatever you want. Doesn’t involve carrying anything except the first time you bring them to the office (and I guess if you ever want to wear them elsewhere on the weekend, etc., you’d carry them home from time to time).

Thanks, everyone who responded to my question about keeping suede shoes neat. Unfortunately, not all CareeristaStyle readers have their own private offices! I am in an entry-level job and I have a desk in a shared office. I definitely could not leave apparel stuff around, and my drawers are packed full. Those were good suggestions, but perhaps the blog could address some of the special challenges posed by women in conservative professions who are just starting their careers. Often, this is a critical time, but there can be some additional obstacles to looking professional (having to do the running around for the office, not being able to keep clothing at work, etc). Oh well, I guess with my entry-level salary I should probably not buy them anyway.

I love love looooooooove these shoes. Unfortunately they were all sold out in my size in this color on Zappos. But I found some other shoes on Zappos that I simply *had* to buy, which eased my pain. So … thanks, C, for the recommendation … I guess? :)

Good points, Anon. When I didn’t have a cube to call my own, I kept a gym bag under my desk — not noticeable, but it didn’t go home with me every night. In it, I kept the essentials: a couple of pairs of shoes in their own protective bags, a makeup case, deodorant and the like, and a set of gym clothes/shoes.
I’ve never encountered workplace resistance to a gym bag; in fact, a supervisor once saw me stowing it away under my desk and said he was glad to see his team was staying active!
Having some necessities available at the office allows you to stay more polished throughout the week, in my opinion.

This isn’t directly on topic, but I wanted to post anyway. I went to a lunch meeting today that had several female attorneys present. Of the 7 women, five wore peep toe or open toe shoes; one had a slingback; and only one wore a basic pump. No nylons at all. This is in Southern California.

Azure: I really hope the Shoe and Hose Nazis everywhere cut women some slack during hot weather, and allow shoes with cut-outs, I live in SoCal too, and its hot here this week.

….had to take a moment to fully appreciate these shoes. Love them!

Love these! Too bad they are sold out in my size.

Incidentally, I got a pair of shoes 2 weeks ago which are almost identical to this pair, only in black and with light brown/beige ribbons. Different manufacturer though, and over 10 times cheaper – although in leather, and reasonably well made. Comfy, too. I kid you not. They were like 50+ euro before they went on sale.
I’m gonna wear them with even more pleasure knowing CareeristaStyle recommends it :)
